The changes of Gini and Lasym indices over time for 20 randomly chosen Chinese cities. (a) and (c) shows the Lasym and Gini indices of 10 randomly chosen cities whose densities are smaller than the density at 1025 people/km2 where the peak of the inverted U-shaped curve emerged in 2010. These cities are called the pre-peak cities. (b) and (d) shows the Lasym and Gini indices of another 10 randomly chosen cities whose densities are larger than 1025 people/km2. These cities are called the post-peak cities. Smooth curves are added using black dashed lines
